What Can I Do To Make My Husband Stop Smoking Cigarettes?

I am a health-conscious person and I care about my husband's health. He is not a chain-smoker. I keep telling him to stop smoking but he just won't listen. How do I make him stop smoking? What can I do?

Tell him it's you or the smokes. It should be an easy decision. That's what I did to my boyfriend.

is there a easy way to control stop smoking triggers?

I recently stopped smoking after 24 yrs. My doctor gave me a pill called Chantix, I swear this Is a miracle pill. I have no withdrawl symptoms, cravings, nothing. It blocks the nicotine receptors In your brain. It's like you never even smoked! Ask about It. I tried everything else out there, this Is the cure!!!! Good Luck!!

Commit Lozenge and My commit to stop smoking?

Hey you fellow smokers? I'm going to quit smoking in 6 days as this is all the packs of cigs I have left and I don't want to buy anymore. Any luck with you in regards to quitting and using this product? I have tootsie roll pops galore awaiting my first urge to snack, I have a bike for exercising and touring the city, I have a support system (friends who don't smoke), and I have a 12 step program (another problem I deal with) that I go to meetings 3-5 a week. Have you any further ideas for me to make this my LAST TIME for quitting? I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks again.

HURRAY!! Your quiting smoking!!! That's a tough one. I know! I haven't smoked in two years. I started with the patch and moved to the gum, which I chewed for a year… :) I stopped that and got an urge to smoke again and started chewing the gum again. I know bad….
As a fellow 12 stepper. You can use the meetings to help with it too!
Good luck…
One day at a time…..

I love being a non smoker I have not had a cig since I got the treatment and its great,My sister says she wants to stop smoking but claims it cost too much (about same amount she spends on 1 month of cigs)

How do you quit smoking with a laser??

Have You Heard Of These Free Stop Smoking Aids?

According to most pharmacists, there are not too many free stop-smoking aids available, except through private philanthropist groups or the medical companies themselves. Counselors, private doctors and clinics sometimes give away free samples on a temporary basis to needy clients if they are available at the time, but usually they are not available on a steady enough basis, depending on the drug.

One example is the Pfizer Company who has just released a new drug similar to the stop smoking drug Zyban by Glaxo, called “Chantix”, and has donated more medicines to patients than any other pharmaceutical company there was last year. However, all low-income and elderly patients who are under Medicare Part D are unable to get any free medications through any of the drug companies’ tax-deductible charities, known as patient-assistance programs.

The three companies who are still giving free medication needy people with no insurance coverage or are not signed up through Medicare Part D are: Pfizer Inc.; Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.; and Merck & Co. Inc. The Bristol-Myers Squibb donated over $500 million worth of drugs to 1 million people in 2005.

A private company organized and ran by volunteers, called the Medical Discounts International (MDI), has a list of basic requirements that are needed for medical assistance. Last year alone they helped more than 7.6 million patients fill more than 11 million prescriptions, costing approximately $2.3 billion dollars. The basic requirements are:

  • The applicant is required to be a US citizen
  • There are no insurance coverage for outpatient prescription drugs
  • There needs to be a physician to sign a form or call the drug company on behalf of the applicant
  • The applicant does not qualify for a government or third party program which provides for prescription drugs
  • The income level is considered a hardship level, requiring the applicant to purchase the drugs at a retail rate
  • Income requirements:
o Less than $1,500 per month per individual, or $2,000 per month per family
o Each medication requires an income criteria that varies from below poverty to $60,000 (the higher income levels are MS, AIDS, transplant or cancer patients) who require very expensive drugs and medical maintenance

Other methods than can be utilized for the smokers to help with withdrawal is to learn how to cope with no medical help. The smokers can use other help area to learn the different ways available to stop smoking. One of the alternative methods is to join Smokers Anonymous. This is a self-help groups where smokers, who have given up smoking, advise and support those who want to give up smoking. These groups hold regular sessions, which can be very useful for a smoker who is facing withdrawal symptoms and finds other avenues blocked. The smoker can also turn to a family member or a friend, and ask for emotional or physical support. No monetary value can be attached to such support because it is genuine. The family member wants to help the smoker give up smoking, and is willing to spend hours with the smoker, or financially assist them in purchasing patches, gum, or other smoking aids.

The smoker can also pick up a simple hobby like gardening or building scrapbooks from newspapers clippings. These will keep him occupied and reduce the urge to smoke. The smoker must learn to fill up hours with meaningful and engrossing activity. This can only happen if the smoker picks up an activity in which he is genuinely interested. Another option is to bring discipline to his life, by drinking a glass of water or fruit juice whenever there is an urge to smoke. Another natural way to fight the urge to smoke is to learn the depp breathing techniques, learning to relax by taking a few deep breaths. Regular exercises also help. Ultimately, a healthy body leads to a healthy mind, and gives the smoker the strength to give up smoking.

The Littlest Victims of Addiction: Use Chantix to Stop Smoking for your Children

As you stand in line at the pharmacy picking up the prescription for ADD medication for your eight-year old child, your mind wanders back to the conversation you had with his doctor.

â??Did Johnny have recurring ear infections as a child?â?

â??Yesâ?

â??Did he have respiratory infections as well?â?

â??Yesâ?

â??Maâ??am, does anyone in your household smoke?â?

â??I do, why? Is that somehow related?â?

â??Unfortunately, maâ??am, studies have shown a connection between secondhand smoke and all of these issuesâ?

Too stunned to really hear much more of the conversation, you walk out of that office holding a prescription for your now-hyperactive son wondering if you are responsible for his issues.

Donâ??t let this happen to you! Become educated to the hazardous effects of secondhand smoke on children, then stop smoking before the little one in your house becomes nicotineâ??s latest little victim.

The Effects of Cigarette Smoke on Children:

One of the most frequently affected areas in the bodies of children whose parents smoke is the lungs. Sadly, these children are more prone to everything from sinus infections to much more serious chronic respiratory problems. Moreover, these children are more prone to bronchitis and even pneumonia. So, if you wonâ??t use a cure like Chantix to stop smoking for yourself, then do it for your little oneâ??s respiratory health.

Secondhand smoke doesnâ??t just affect their little lungs. It has also been connected to chronic ear infections. For those of us who have gone through endless sleepless nights with a crying child, multiple rounds of antibiotics, steroids and tubes, ear infections are the stuff of nightmares. All children are susceptible to ear infections in the first eighteen months, but those who breathe in secondhand hand have an even greater risk of chronic ear infections, which may lead to hearing loss. To stop smoking is tough, but drugs like Chantix do help considerably.

Finally, children of smokers, particularly mothers who smoked while pregnant have a much greater likelihood of experiencing a non-verbal learning disability like hyperactivity. If not than, then a potential learning disability connected to the same exposure to smoke. If you have children, or want to have children consider the risks of secondhand smoke. For their sake, if not yours, talk to your doctor about medication, for example Chantix and stop smoking before it is their health or their brain that suffers.

Chantix, a stop smoking aid from Pfizer, was recently approved by the FDA and may well be the wonder drug chronic smokers need to quit. It acts on the same areas in the brain as nicotine by provide similar stimuli. The effect of this is to reduce the horrid withdrawal symptoms. It also blocks nicotine, should the smoker start back to old habits. Isnâ??t it time to ask yourself whether you would rather stand in a pharmacy for a prescription for hyperactivity medication or stand there for a stop smoking aid like Chantix potentially preventing such health and educational risks for your son or daughter?

Time To Stop Smoking

I often hear smokers say they will stop smoking when the time is right…..If you are still reading this article, then perhaps your right itme to stop is now!

When I get a call about smoking cessation therapy, I’m usually asked, “how much will it cost to stop smoking“? I respond, “A lot less than it will cost to keep smoking, and I don’t just mean the money”.

Do you really want to stop???

If you truly want to stop smoking, then maybe your first port of call should be your doctor’s practice. They will have trained nurses to help you with counselling, patches, gum and advice. This approach might work for you, but for the people who turn to their Hypnotherapist for help, this approach obviously hasn’t helped (and I see lots of them). If this is you, read on………

First of all, please remember that any well trained and qualified Hypnotherapist, really wants you to stop-smoking, they know what smoking does to people, and to their loved ones when they become ill and perhaps die. One in every two individuals who smoke will die of a smoking related disease, perhaps as young as 65 years, the average age of death for a smoker. In fact, a person dies in the UK of smoking related diseases ever five minutes….just think about that….More deaths than accidents, AIDS, drug abuse & alcohol all rolled up together….and if that isn’t enough, there are those countless numbers who need to have amputations, and those who struggle on with breathing difficulties and wheezing and coughing for a long time before the habit finally finishes them off.

Did you know that it was in the 60’s that tobacco and cancer where first linked together….no not the 1960’s….the 1760’s….yep, you heard correctly, the 1760’s. In 1761 a London Doctor called John Hill found that tobacco in the form of snuff caused pollypusses (small tumours) in the respiratory tract of many who used it.

Now just take a look at what you breath in when you take a nice long drag on your cigarette….

Information on Constituents of Tobacco Smoke

Nicotine is the most widely known chemical in tobacco smoke, but many people are amazed to discover that there are well over 4000 other chemicals produces when tobacco burns. Most of these have incomprehensible names and really only known to scientists and chemical analysts. Lister below, though, are some of the more well known ones.

CADMIUM

CARBON MONOXIDE

CARBON DIOXIDE

AMMONIA

PROPANE

METHANE

METHANOL

NICKEL COMPOUNDS

BENZENE

ISOPRENE

HYDROGEN SULPHIDE

ACREOLIN

ACETONE

HYDROCYANIC ACID

HYDROGEN CYANIDE

CREOSOL

METHYL NITRATE

NITROGEN OXIDE

DDT

PYRIDINE

TAR

FORMALDEHYDE

BUTADIONE

NICOTINE

In addition to these chemicals - given of purely as a result of the tobacco leaf burning - there are various additional unwholesome substances that may be present as a result of the plantation environment and the conditions in which the harvested leaf is stored and shipped.

Ok, That’s the bad news…but if you do stop….here are the benefits….

After 20 minutes, your blood pressure drops to normal and temerature of hands and feet return to normal.

After 8 hours Carbon monoxide levels in the blood drop to normal and oxygen levels in the blood return to normal.

24 Hours Chance of heart attacks begin to decrease.

48 Hours Nerve endings start to re-grow and smell and taste improve.

2 weeks – Circulation improves, Exercise including walking becomes easier. Lung function can increase by up to one third.

And there’s a lot more good news for you if you really want to stop. If you have the desire, why not contact your local hypnotherapist but make sure they are qualified, insured and experienced in smoking cessation therapy. I suggest you look for membership of at least one of the main UK Institutes and Associations which include:

British Institute of Hypnotherapy

Genaral Hypnotherapy Register (Registering arm of the Hypnotherapy Standards Council)

National Council for Hypnotherapy

Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy

Hypnotherapy Association

Ensure that your therapist has a good knowledge of the health risks to smoking as well as the relevant skills and experience to offer you a first class stop-smoking session. If you know anyone who gave up with Hypnotherapy, ask them for the details of their therapist.

Good luck with kicking your habit…If you would like to speak to me about stopping, please call me on 020 8658 4290, or email alancrisp@yourtruth.co.uk. I will always be pleased to hear from you and I’d love to help you stop-smoking.

Popular Products That Can Help You Quit Smoking

The Desire to Quit Smoking

This “stop smoking product” isn’t found on any shelf or in any store or web site. The desire to quit smoking for yourself and for the betterment of your health must be present for a smoking cessation program to be successful.

With that being said, here is a list of quit smoking products available today that you may find helpful in your quest for a healthier, smoke-free life.

Nicotine Patches

This method of quitting smoking is a form of nicotine replacement therapy. A small, usually transparent patch is placed on the body and periodically releases small amounts of nicotine. This allows your brain to get the nicotine it craves while weaning yourself from it but without getting the harmful smoke.

Nicotine Gum

Nicotine gum is a popular stop smoking aid in that it serves two purposes. First, the gum releases small amounts of nicotine when chewed, and secondly, it helps keep your mouth busy and may help with overeating.

Quit Smoking Lozenges

These lozenges are said to help decrease nicotine cravings and ease withdrawal symptoms such as nervousness, anxiety and headaches. They’re also useful for the oral fixation aspect of quitting smoking and can help some avoid gaining weight.

Quit Smoking Pills

There are a few quit smoking pills available that you can ask your doctor about. Zyban is a popular drug that many people have found helpful that doesn’t contain nicotine but aids in the withdrawal process.

Zyban contains the same ingredient as the anti-depressant Wellbutrin and has the same effects such as easing irritability and anxiety, but without being classified as an anti-depressant.

A new drug hitting the market, under the name Chantix, Varenicline has been shown to block nicotine from attaching to the receptors in the brain. When nicotine is inhaled, the chemical properties attach themselves to the brain receptors, which then act as tiny messengers telling the body to release dopamine.

Dopamine is the chemical that gives us a feeling of relief and pleasure, which is why nicotine addiction is so strong since the body continuously wants to experience that “feel good” sensation it gets from smoking.

Herbal Remedies

If you prefer the natural route, you may want to consider herbal remedies such as pills, teas and even herbal cigarettes. These cigarettes resemble the real deal without the nicotine and tar and may give you something to do with your hands. They also still allow you to experience the sensation of smoking while quitting the habit.

Hypnosis and Support Groups

If you are a person who is able to be hypnotized, as not everyone is, then perhaps this method is worth trying as several people have reported success after a stop smoking hypnosis session.

Support groups are beneficial in that they surround you with like-minded people who understand your feelings through first hand experience. People often find it easier to quit smoking with the support of others and can share tips, hints and even frustrations in your journey to quit smoking.

Any of these stop smoking products coupled with the strong desire to lead a healthier and longer life can help you realize your dream of being a non-smoker. Remember the adverse ramifications that are well-documented and filling the news reports today such as lung cancer, emphysema, COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, not to mention the damage caused to friends and loved ones by second-hand smoke.
